As a Prototype Engineer within the AR/VR prototype team, you will work closely with Design, Engineering and Research teams to develop functional concept prototypes and high-fidelity appearance models. You must demonstrate an understanding of technical skills and knowledge in a variety of prototyping processes at a consistent high-level of quality and speed. This position requires strong conceptual development and the proficient use of various manufacturing processes and their correct implementation within the prototype path. The incumbent must be able to work independently, have a high attention to detail, be customer oriented and possess strong problem-solving skills. A good working knowledge and ability to take working files or conceptual ideas and develop them through to completion. This person must be a self-starter, well organized and have strong communication skills.

Required Skills:

  1. Create prototypes of concepts and products for evaluation, presentation and focus group studies.

  2. Collaborate with the Industrial Design, Engineering and Research teams to ensure models and prototypes meet their requirements.

  3. Engage with the Fabrication team to resolve complex design challenges, create bespoke machined or printed parts and help improve prototype process.

  4. Finish and assemble concepts to a high-level of presentation quality.

  5. Use hand sketches, computer aided designs (CAD) to create 3D models according to established specifications.

  6. Develop strong relationships with external vendors to assist in streamlining workflow.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Design course or equivalent experience

  2. 3+ years of experience in an Engineering/Design role with experience in consumer electronics and product development

  3. CAD experience (SolidWorks, NX, Fusion 360, Rhino)

  4. Experience in working with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Product Design, Research, etc.

  5. Hands-on experience and knowledge of the full spectrum of the prototype development process, such as: 3D printing, CNC machining, molding, casting, functional prototypes, electrical integration and appearance models with aesthetic fit, finishes at a production-level appearance

  6. Experience devising and constructing tools, dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures, or modify existing tools and equipment to achieve desired outcome

  7. Experience with hand finishing, painting and assembly of high-end visual and appearance Models

  8. Experience with problem solving and working independently
