Summary:

Facebook seeks a highly motivated and experienced attorney to serve as Lead Counsel, Data Center Construction & Design in Facebook’s San Francisco based legal department. This full-time position will work closely with Facebook’s Infrastructure Construction Management and Infrastructure Sourcing teams and will report to the Associate General Counsel (Infrastructure). This is a great opportunity to join a growing legal team and work in an exciting, fast-paced environment.

Required Skills:

  1. Assist with the design, construction, expansion, renovation, and repair of Facebook’s data center campuses in the U.S. and internationally.

  2. Work will include the negotiation and drafting of the broad array of agreements necessary to complete the design and construction of new data centers (conceptual engineering phases through commissioning) and renovation, repair, and expansion of existing data centers for Facebook’s active Infrastructure Design and Construction team.

  3. Provide strategic and tactical guidance to the dozens of active construction projects at any given time.

  4. Work closely with Facebook’s Data Center Strategy and Development team to ensure that data center design and construction contracts account for site specific variables.

  5. Work closely with Facebook’s Tax and Economic Development teams to comply with applicable tax agreements.

  6. Flag issues and seek guidance from other subject matter experts as needed (e.g., employment counsel, risk management, tax experts, etc.).

  7. Closely manage and direct outside counsel.

  8. Counsel Facebook’s Infrastructure Design and Construction team on the above areas including strategy and planning, insurance requirements, and tax and other incentives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. J.D. degree and membership in at least one state bar

  2. 4+ years of experience structuring, drafting, and negotiating construction and design agreements for construction projects

  3. Drafting and negotiating experience along with business judgment and experience thinking strategically

  4. Experience managing simultaneous national and international projects under deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Membership in California state bar

  2. Experience structuring, drafting, and negotiating construction and design agreements on a global basis for construction projects similar in scale to data center

  3. Experience with economic development projects
