The Instagram Direct team works on building the messaging service for the visual future, to strengthen relationships with the people closest to you through shared visual moments. With over 375 million monthly users, Direct is already one of the top global messaging services by number of active users.

Required Skills:

  1. Build client side mobile infrastructure for Instagram Direct with iOS Objective-C

  2. Architect efficient and modular abstractions that drive reliable and performant messaging

  3. Debug messaging infra issues at scale, every edge case is seen by millions of people

  4. Improve messaging reliability, performance and efficiency across the Instagram app and the Direct app

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. B.S. or M.S. Computer Science or 4+ years in software development experience

  2. 5+ years experience building iOS applications

  3. 4+ years experience building iOS frameworks in Objective-C or Swift

  4. Experience architecting and leading iOS infrastructure projects

  5. Experience in understanding large code bases, including API design techniques

  6. Experience in the following technologies:

  7. Experience with multi-threading and memory management specific to mobile devices

  8. Experience with SQLite and mobile specific caches

  9. Experience with push notifications and background fetching

  10. Experience with networking, client-server APIs and protocols
