Attempting to connect the world requires an alternative approach to building and deploying telecom network infrastructure. Through organizations like the Telecom Infra Project (www.telecominfraproject.com (http://www.telecominfraproject.com/)) and through direct engagement with individual operators around the world, the team collaborates globally with the telecom industry to identify and execute a range of connectivity programs. If you have passion for working with operators, ISPs and other industry stakeholders to drive innovative, cutting edge, cost efficient wireless and network infrastructure projects that will deliver internet access to the unconnected while significantly scaling current networks – then this is a great role for you.As a Connectivity Technologies and Ecosystems Manager you will work closely with the Facebook Connectivity team and TIP ecosystem members to develop telecom infrastructure in the areas of wireless access, backhaul, core networking, optical and satellite communication systems. In parallel, you will interface with industry leading partners, including hardware/software vendors and systems solution providers. Finally, you will work closely with network operators adopting the telecom infrastructure to understand how Facebook and its partner’s contributions can be of most impact to this diverse ecosystem. This position is full-time and is based in Sao Paulo.

Required Skills:

  1. Question the status quo and use your strategic vision for the connectivity technology landscape to shape TIP efforts across access, backhaul and core domains. Ultimately, you will enable these infrastructure solutions with the network operator community and drive deployments across the industry at large.

  2. Advocate internally at Facebook, through Telecom Infrastructure Project (TIP), and the partner community at large on how to maximize opportunities to successfully deploy new telecom hardware and software contributions across the industry.

  3. Manage the technical relationships with network operator and infrastructure partners to help reduce friction and remove obstacles facing telecom hardware/software contribution and market adoption.

  4. Identify key telecom network use case requirements, compile common feature sets and software open API requests from operator partners to drive design parameters within Facebook programs and the technology vendor community.

  5. Educate the Facebook Connectivity team about how to contribute to TIP, share achievements and impact of contributions, and developments coming from partners.

  6. Write white papers, blog posts to share with the broader community with the goal to introduce and help drive adoption of TIP infrastructure.

  7. Stay abreast of developments in the telecom infrastructure space and share that knowledge with the wider infrastructure team.

  8. Support the direction and expansion of the team, helping to scope future roles as the charter of the team grows.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Previous experience (8+ years) as a R&D, solutions, sales engineer or technical marketing manager in one or more of the telecom infrastructure areas - wireless access, backhaul and core networking.

  2. Understanding of mobile telecom infrastructure system architecture, network design principles, RF spectrum bands coupled with experience deploying wireless networks.

  3. Familiarity with evolution and development of cellular (2G/3G/4G/5G) and Wi-Fi (802.11n/ac/ax/ad/ay) wireless networks – leading technologies and industry developments, partners, typical development cycles, performance, challenges and software solutions.

  4. Ability to understand network operator deployment scenarios such as different geographies and population densities, indoor/outdoor, ARPUs and uses cases such as fixed/mobile access, enterprise/public access to drive development of flexible, cost-effective and open infrastructure.

  5. Familiarity with internet user data usage patterns and application performance characterization.

  6. BS or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree/experience.

  7. Communication skills including experience in communicating with technical and business audiences including the C-suite.

  8. Fluency in English.

  9. Fluency in Brazilian Portuguese and/or Spanish.

  10. Willingness and ability to travel up to 25-35% of time.
