Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Research Program Manager with a drive for building amazingly effective operational research and outreach programs. The Facebook Research Program Manager is responsible for managing the strategic engagement and relationship for Facebook’s growing AI efforts in Europe. This role balances strategic insight and vision with relationship management and operational delivery. Success will be achieve through helping FAIR’s world leading AI researchers engage and collaborate with external academic experts, researchers and students. As part of a broader outreach team this role will help ensure the best research outcomes for Facebook as it engages with external academic institutions. The goal of this position is to help drive and support Facebook as the leading collaborative AI research organization and the destination of choice for academic talent looking to help connect the world. This position is located at our headquarters in Paris, France.

Required Skills:

  1. Owning and driving operational excellence in academic engagements for Facebook AI in Europe. This includes both delivering against existing agreements and working with Facebook’s AI Research leadership to help shape the next wave of engagements and investments.

  2. Working with the research leads to identify how and which external research engagements can best deliver on the Research team’s goals through various forms of academic, industry and governmental initiatives.

  3. Oversight and stewardship of regional student engagements and residency programs.

  4. Helping identify compelling narratives that showcase Facebook’s research capabilities.

  5. Provide program oversight for each engagement partnering with PhD Recruiting and Communications as required.

  6. Support the ROAR Director in ensuring the investments and portfolio reflect the research imperatives for Facebook.

  7. Establish a rhythm and cadence for engagement with external partnerships across academic and industrial research organization.

  8. Partner with multiple internal cross-functional teams (Research, Recruiting, Policy, Legal, and Creative) within Facebook to drive the execution of brand and policy objectives.

  9. Recommend and implement process improvements including improving tools and infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years of experience in research or technical program management.

  2. 5+ years of professional experience interfacing with the academic research community and awareness of engagement mechanisms, sensitivities to IP issues, and understanding of the academic calendar.

  3. Knowledge of the academic and research business practice.

  4. Ability to create and deliver a strategic plan in close partnership with the Research team and the functional and support resources within ROAR.

  5. Experience working with academic and industrial research organizations.

  6. Experience working internationally both through direct engagement with researchers and through collaboration with internal partners.

  7. Ability to drive initiatives at both strategic- and execution-levels.

  8. Experience in facilitating the information exchange between the research teams and the business or product delivery organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in STEM subject.

  2. Fluent in French and English.

  3. Experience managing a multi-million dollar research budget.

  4. Ability to identify ROI opportunities for research investments.

  5. Experience working in a multi-national technology-focused company.
