Summary:

Facebook is seeking people with experience in privacy and data protection to join the office of the EU Data Protection Officer. These individuals should be able to advise the company on a range of privacy, data protection and security-related legal and compliance initiatives. This is a full-time position located in our European headquarters in Dublin, Ireland (preferred). Alternative locations may be considered such as London, UK or Paris, France or Brussels, Belgium. The role is broad and, among other things, involves advising the business on various legal risks and obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation as well as other European privacy and data protection laws and regulators. It also involves representing the EU DPO Office to data subjects and data protection authorities, as well as reporting to the executive of Facebook family of companies. This requires the ability to both work independently and assess the impact of project initiatives on data subject's privacy and data protection, as well as the impact of laws and regulations on Facebook products and services. We are looking for someone with sharp analytical and communication skills, who is diligent, proactive, collaborative, organized and has demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment and strategic thinking.

The role will report to the Deputy Data Protection Officer and can be based in Brussels, Dublin, London or Paris.

Required Skills:

  1. Represent the EU DPO Office in all relevant matters, including informing, providing advice to the business, and responding to any internal queries concerning the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) and all other EU privacy and data protection matters

  2. Evaluate the impact, and monitor the performance and effectiveness of, Data Protection Impact Assessments, and undertake other privacy and data protection-related investigations where necessary

  3. Develop guidance as well as training and awareness materials for relevant business functions involved in the processing of personal data

  4. Partner with relevant industry and consumer bodies to analyze relevant GDPR developments and their impact on Facebook users

  5. Maintain a monitoring program and privacy and data protection controls framework

  6. Act as contact point for data subjects in any DPO matters, including handling and responding to data subject requests

  7. Support the DPO in responding to regulatory inspections and maintaining a relationship with data protection authorities, including developing regulatory strategy

  8. Support the DPO in preparing for events, speeches, and meetings with data protection authorities

  9. Draft and provide reports to executives and the public as appropriate on DPO matters

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Experience working in privacy and data protection with law firm, renowned consultancy and/or in-house with internet or technology companies

  2. Strong knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies and devices

  3. Demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic and creative advice to business with considerations to the impact in Facebook users and society

  4. Ability to independently, quickly and accurately assess legal, practical and business risks, as well as risks to data subjects, in a fast-paced environment

  5. Demonstrated expertise in privacy and data issues arising in one or more privacy areas, including engaging with and responding to requests from data subjects and data protection authorities

  6. Exceptional interpersonal skills and an absolute commitment to professionalism and collegiality

  7. Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to get the job done

  8. Sharp focus on multi-tasking, details, and organisational skills

  9. Attention to detail and strong drafting ability that can be used in a commercial setting with business stakeholders, as well as in a public setting with data subjects and data protection authorities

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with the General Data Protection Regulation, as well as other global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media and Internet companies

  2. Desired certifications: CIPP/E, CIPP/M, CIPP/T
