Facebook Consumer Communications Manager in New York, New York

Summary:

Facebook is looking for an experienced Consumer Communications Manager to join the Consumer Team. The team's mission is to bring Facebook's new community-driven mission to life through proactive storytelling, programs and partnerships.

In this role, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to create and support proactive public relations campaigns around Facebook's mission to build community and core products. The person will focus on consumer outlets, especially New York-based media, and must have very strong relationships with top-tier press (national broadcast in particular). A strategic, creative and resourceful communicator, able to manage multiple high-level projects simultaneously will nail this position. Must be a self-starter who can work well in a satellite office and whose top clients will be external, consumer press.

This is a full-time position based in New York, New York.

Required Skills:

  1. Media relations: Strengthen existing and cultivate new relationships with consumer print and online media, broadcast producers (TV and radio), bloggers and influencers

  2. Enhance awareness of Facebook and our core products in mainstream consumer press outlets

  3. Identify, create and execute opportunities to connect community leaders on Facebook (think Group admins) with consumer press

  4. Ability to work cross-functionally with various Facebook teams and external agencies to drive proactive campaigns and in a fast-paced environment

  5. Organize press briefings, media sessions and events, with little oversight or guidance

  6. Prepare briefing materials and manage executive spokespeople in New York City

  7. Ability to travel about 20% of the time

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree in Communications or English

  2. 7+ years of work experience at a PR agency or in-house

  3. 5+ years of experience in managing or working with PR agencies and contractors

  4. Experience building media relationships in New York City across verticals

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience thinking and communicating strategically
