Summary:

Facebook is seeking a Research Scientist Manager to join the Operations and Computation Group within the Core Data Science team. Individuals in this role are expected to be comfortable working managing a team of people in the general areas of Operations Management, Operations Research, Optimization and Algorithms who will conduct research, build models, implement solutions, and have a passion for solving real-world problems.

Required Skills:

  1. Work closely with engineering teams to identify and answer important product and business questions

  2. Answer product and business questions by using appropriate optimization, game theoretical, and statistical techniques on available data

  3. Communicate findings to product managers and engineers

  4. Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources

  5. Analyze and interpret the results of product experiments

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. PhD in computer science, operations research, operations management, economics or related fields and 8+ years experience in a related role

  2. Experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches

  3. Experience manipulating and analyzing data from various sources

  4. Knowledge for applied research and for answering questions with models and data

  5. Experience communicating quantitative analysis

  6. Experience with programming and scripting languages such as C++, Python or PHP

  7. Experience with mathematical programming tools and optimization software such as GUROBI, CPLEX or XPRESS

  8. Experience with relational databases and SQL

  9. Knowledge of an analysis tool such as Python, R, MATLAB, or SAS

  10. Experience working with data sets, experience working with distributed computing tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, etc.)

  11. Ability to obtain work authorization in the United States in 2018

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Optimization (including Integer programming and combinatorial optimization), Algorithms (complexity, graph theory, matching)

  2. Operations Management (including Supply chain management, Inventory management)
