The FB Connectivity Lab team works on developing new platforms and solutions for connectivity.
We're seeking a Research Scientist who is adept at collaboratively evaluating problems from a global level to the nanoscale, from the lab to field deployments, in a variety of domains that include, but aren't limited to: digital communications systems, wired, wireless, fiber-optic systems and software, RF and optical signal propagation, RF, optical, other EE components, and material science. We're also looking for someone with demonstrated success as a research program lead engaging both internal and external partner teams. Foster a positive, creative, and collaborative environment, encouraging brainstorming and an openness to try new, unconventional ideas
Conduct research to advance the science and technology of complex communications components and systems in support of Connectivity Lab's mission
Identify and engage external research teams (both corporate and academic) that are aligned with the FB Connectivity mission
Mentor researchers and engineering teams to support FB Connectivity Labs
Collaborate with researchers inside and outside of Facebook
Champion research, engineering, and operational excellence for establishing metrics, tools, and processes to regularly assess project progress and improvement
Collaborate with engineering and management teams to set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability
Work with FBC engineering, product managers, and our partnership teams to transition research to products
Share results internally and externally through means of publications, presentations, and blogposts
B.S. or M.S. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
Physics experience with experience working on communication systems
10+ years of technical leadership experience architecting, developing, and launching hardware/software projects and/or services
Demonstrated track record of starting projects, companies, or research labs
Experience with technical leadership in leading research efforts
Experience handling multiple priorities
Knowledge on how culture and team dynamics create teams
