We are looking for an experienced Program Manager with a passion for building and executing amazingly effective operational research and outreach programs.
More than half the population of the world are not yet connected to the Internet. Facebook Connectivity is undertaking research to develop the next generation technologies to connect everyone on the planet to the Internet. We are looking for someone to manage programs being developed at FB Connectivity to get everyone connected. You will partner with internal and external resources to deliver on engaging research challenges.
The Program Manager is responsible for managing a broad portfolio of research activities and strategic engagements between Facebook's Connectivity Lab team and various academic and industrial research groups around the world. This role balances strategic insight with operational delivery; it provides an interface between the research teams and others in the ROAR team that can help ensure the best research outcomes for Facebook as it engages with external academic institutions.
This position is located at our headquarters in Menlo Park, California.
Working with the research leads and Research PM to identify and execute on external research engagements that can best deliver on the Connectivity Lab's goals
Promote the Connectivity Lab's mission and drive awareness of the activities to encourage strong partnerships and collaborations delivering on Facebook's defined research challenges
Advance Facebook Research business goals by creating and reinforcing external partnerships across academic and research organizations
Partner with multiple internal cross-functional teams (Research, Recruiting, Policy, Legal, and Creative) within Facebook to drive the execution of Connectivity Lab's research objectives
Drive operational excellence across a broad portfolio of connectivity and network-related research areas
Recommend and implement process improvements including improving tools and infrastructure
Maintain a working partnership with stakeholder business managers and administrators to ensure ROAR is the go-to team for academic engagement
3+ years of experience in research and/or program management
Knowledge of the academic and research business practices
Experience in creating and delivering a strategic plan in partnership with the Research team and the functional and support resources within ROAR
3+ years of work experience interfacing with the academic research community and knowledge of engagement mechanisms, IP issues, and knowledge of the academic calendar
Experience working with academic and industrial research organizations
Experience working internationally both through direct engagement with researchers and through collaboration with internal partners
Experience in driving initiatives at both strategic- and execution-levels
Experience in facilitating the information exchange between the research teams and the business or product delivery organizations
Experience working in a multi-national technology-focused company
Bachelor's degree in a STEM subject or business management
