The Facebook Connectivity team works with mobile operators to bring more people online both by making mobile data affordable and attractive and by innovating hardware and software solutions for industry which lower total cost of operating. Through our Telecom Infrastructure Project, programs such as Open Cellular and back-end system efforts (e.g. OSS/BSS, network monitoring and optimization, EPC innovation), our teams develop innovative technology which helps move the industry forward to connect the unconnected. You will be the Product Manager for our open source Open Cellular program, a complex program involving work from a variety of industry constituents. As part of a multidisciplinary team, define the next generation of cellular base station technology which will meet the price and performance requirements needed to bring the next billion people online in challenging rural environments. We are looking for someone who is entrepreneurial, structured, and possesses a mix of subject matter expertise with cellular networks and emerging markets experience, preferably with introducing new hardware products to the mobile operator community.
This position is full-time, based at our Menlo Park HQ and will require international travel. Engineering teams supporting these efforts are in Menlo Park, Southern California, and Tel Aviv, Israel.
Work with the team to ideate, develop, and launch innovative cellular base station products
Establish shared vision across the company by building consensus on priorities leading to product execution
Drive product development with a team of world-class engineers
Integrate vendor and partner market studies, usability studies, research and market analysis into product requirements to enhance user satisfaction
Define and analyze metrics that inform the success of products
Understand Facebook’s strategic and competitive position and deliver products that are recognized best in the industry
Maximize efficiency and remove blockers in a constantly evolving environment where the process is fluid and creative solutions are the norm
5+ years of product management experience
Bachelors degree in a technical discipline (i.e.: Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or equivalent technical work experience (e.g., hardware or electrical engineer, network engineer, etc.)
Communication and presentation experience
Organizational and analytical experience
Technical knowledge of 2G, 3G and LTE network equipment, including small cell and macro cell base stations (NodeB/eNodeB)
Technical knowledge of architecture and signaling and data plane protocols for 2G, 3G (optional) and 4G/LTE networks
Technical knowledge of OSI network model, TCP/IP, MPLS and access network technologies such as Wi-Fi and 2G/3G cellular
Electrical or Radio Frequency (RF) degree or work experience
Experience in RAN technologies, including the PHY layer and air interfaces of base stations
Fast-paced start-up environment experience
Experience with open source hardware projects
