Facebook Policy Communications Manager, Security in Menlo Park, California

Facebook is looking for a Policy Communications Manager to support our information security efforts, including all the ways we keep people safe and secure on our services. This person will develop and execute communications programs from scratch, working closely with our teams focused on security in Product, Engineering/Infrastructure, Public Policy and other teams across the company.

The ideal candidate is passionate about telling stories that show how Facebook protects people and our company from outside threats. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role for someone who can easily translate information to both technical and non-technical audiences, develop and execute programs independently, stay calm in crisis situations, work effectively with journalists, and anticipate potential issues for both internal and media-facing work.

This is a full-time position located in our Menlo Park, CA office.

Required Skills:

  1. Build and execute proactive communications programs for press, policy makers, and other groups that highlight the work Facebook does to protect our community and company.

  2. Manage in-bound press inquiries on a range of time-sensitive issues with high stakes and visibility.

  3. Develop and pitch stories to a range of press, including technical security, business, policy, and consumer reporters.

  4. Prepare messaging and other external materials such as blog posts, speeches, and videos.

  5. Partner closely with executives to create successful communications outcomes for interviews, speeches, panels, and other external engagements.

  6. Directly manage communications for product launches, policy issues, and other announcements.

  7. Work with our global Product, Engineering/Infrastructure, and Public Policy teams, along with others around the company, to build, understand, and communicate corporate and product security technology and policies.

  8. Represent the Communications team in a wide range of internal, high-impact discussions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 6+ years of communications experience

  2. Experience in policy communications, public policy, public affairs, crisis communications, or issues management

  3. Experience distilling technology or policy concepts into language for non-expert audiences

  4. Experience creating messaging materials, and working collaboratively with cross-functional groups including Legal, Public Policy, Consumer Marketing, and Research

  5. Experience managing crisis communications situations independently

  6. Experience building outreach programs and managing stakeholder relations at a national or international level

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Media relationships with a diverse range of reporters and bloggers

  2. Experience managing diverse cross-functional stakeholder relations in fast-paced and ambiguous environments

  3. Familiarity with information security community dynamics and researcher relations

  4. Experience with consumer communications around complex technology topics
