Oculus is looking for an experienced and self-motivated Optical Process Engineer to join the Hardware Product Development team. The successful candidate will lead the development of manufacturing processes for the mass production of complex optical systems within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Development support during product design phase to provide input dealing with manufacturability needs (DFM/DFA) for optics and related components.
Define, develop and deploy new manufacturing technology (e.g., optical assembly, active alignment, adhesives, and lamination).
Analyze manufacturability of the prototype designs and refine as necessary, operating as a member of product development team.
Develop and evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, materials, tooling, fabrication, and assembly.
Confer with equipment vendors and solicit feedback from operators.
Investigate and assist in resolving manufacturing concerns relating to production, quality and product design.
Assist with design changes.
Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering or related field with 5+ years industry experience or equivalent experience
Hands-on or academic experience in the focus areas listed below:
Injection mold tool design
Injection molding processes (of optical materials)
Injection mold part qualification process
Development of new processes for optical applications
Camera module integration
Display lamination process
Knowledge of plastic materials, especially optical grades
Experience communicating technical concepts
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams
Proven track record of developing technologies and successful transition into high-volume consumer products.
Knowledge of statistical quality control and process capability analysis.
