The Hardware Network Engineering team is looking for a Network System Hardware Scientist that will implement network data simulations and develop modeling and simulation platform for Facebook’s global network comprised of cutting-edge switches and routers. The Hardware Network Engineering team is responsible for the design, implementation and support of one of the world’s largest networks. As a Network System Hardware Scientist in this team, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the future Facebook networks by providing the technical requirements and steering the industry and ecosystem.
Build the hardware specification for our vendors based on system & network based on considerations and this hardware specifications include components such as chip designs, board speed, topology, fiber, and optical-electronic I/O.
Identification and recommendation of hardware component requirements and alignment of hardware technologies to Facebook growth.
Work with our Capacity planning team and to help drive prediction and optimization of network capacity based on Facebook specific services and their organic and disruptive growth dimensions.
Identification and data driven contextualization and quantification of disruptive trends in infrastructure.
Development of algorithms, and modeling platforms to map the growth requirements against system choices and component specifications.
Master's degree in Math, or Computer Science with math background.
3+ years of experience with large-scale network modeling and simulation.
3+ years of experience with network data acquisition and interpretation.
Track record of an independently run project.
Knowledge in software programming including Python.
PhD in Math, or Computer Science with strong math background.
Familiarity with TCP/IP networks, network topology and modeling.
Experience in writing performance code and distributed simulation environments.
Programming skills in C/C++.
Experience working in distributed software development environments.
