Summary:

Our infrastructure is the foundation that powers the building of this community and our data centers are the backbone upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure operates. The Strategic Planning and Analytics team is responsible for establishing the roadmap for our Data Center footprint, enabling the business to execute, and developing analytics programs to measure and optimize the health of our operations. We are seeking an experienced thought leader to evolve our analytics program and run forensics for the organization to further optimize our operations as we rapidly scale the footprint. In this role, you will be expected to forge partnerships with the leadership team and leverage several data science techniques to deep dive into various parts of the organization and solve hard business problems that will better position the org to scale. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in white space and creating impact from the ground up in a fast-paced environment, and also be a seasoned thought leader with a proven track record of evolving organizations. This is a full-time role based in our Menlo Park office.

Required Skills:

  1. Lead and continue to evolve the data science team of both managers and individual contributors

  2. Form partnerships across the org to deep dive and surface opportunities for optimization

  3. Leverage data and business principles to identify and solve complex business problems for the wider Infra Data Center organization

  4. Partner with multiple cross-functional teams in order to define problem statements, collect data, build optimization models and make recommendations

  5. Continue to define and develop analytics programs from metrics creation, data collection, modeling, and reporting the operational performance of Facebook’s data centers

  6. Identify and implement streamlined processes for data reporting and communication

  7. Leverage analytical models to identify insights that are used to drive key decisions across the organization

  8. Routinely communicate opportunities, trends and other key indicators to leadership

  9. Provide leadership and mentorship to members of cross-functional teams

  10. Lead and support various ad hoc projects, as needed, in support of Facebook’s Infrastructure strategy

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in an analytical field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research)

  2. 7+ years of experience leading teams and hands on people management in a matrixed organization

  3. 10+ years of experience in solving business problems

  4. Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional projects

  5. Demonstrated experience mentoring managers and individual contributors

  6. 8+ years of experience in a role with emphasis on data analysis and metrics development

  7. 10+ years of hands-on experience analyzing and interpreting data, drawing conclusions, defining recommended actions, and reporting results across stakeholders

  8. Demonstrated experience leveraging data driven models to drive business decisions

  9. Hands-on experience with datasets (i.e. data extraction, cleaning, analysis and presentation)

  10. Work experience using data access tools and building visualizations using large datasets and multiple data sources

  11. Experience distilling and communicating data to all organizational levels

  12. Experience building and maintaining data driven optimization models, experiments, forecasting algorithms and capacity constraint models

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience leveraging tools like R, PHP, Python, Hadoop & SQL to drive efficient analytics

  2. Technical knowledge of data center operations
