Facebook Manager, Documentation Engineering in Menlo Park, California

Facebook is seeking a Manager for Documentation Engineering team that is focused on building internal documentation to be used by other Facebook engineers. This person will support the existing team of writers who are tasked with helping to scale Facebook documentation to our growing engineering organizations. This role would be responsible for not only managing the overall team, hiring new team members, but also setting the strategy, direction and communication of a team with a mission to connect the internal organization through documentation. You'll work incredibly closely with Facebook Engineering leadership to establish priorities, strategy and communicate regular updates on what's happening with the team and space. Our Documentation Engineers are often embedded with the teams they are partnering with to deliver solid docs, so you would be responsible for ensuring solid partnerships, steady growth, and measurable impact. This is a full-time position based in our Menlo Park office and will report to the Group Technical Program Manager within Developer Infrastructure.

Required Skills:

  1. Lead a large team of developer documentation writers

  2. Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and process for regular assessment and improvement

  3. Establish a solid project framework and excellent development processes

  4. Provide technical leadership and guidance to both your team members and your project peers

  5. Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with the engineering and management teams

  6. Establish strong cross-functional relationships with engineering leadership

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 8+ years experience in technical documentation, and/or developer outreach for a developer audience

  2. 4+ years of management experience with at least 2 years experience leading people managers

  3. Experience with API documentation in C++, C, Java, Python, or similar

  4. Experience working with XML-based authoring tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. BA/BS in Computer Science or English

  2. Experience working with engineering teams that build tools for other engineers

  3. Experience establishing broader education initiatives for engineering
