Facebook Lead Counsel, Privacy in Menlo Park, California

This role will handle cutting-edge and complex legal matters involving global privacy and will support other global regulatory compliance areas as appropriate. You must have flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and organizational needs. In addition, you must have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, small but growing environment and work collaboratively and proactively with the legal team and other internal and external stakeholders.
Provide legal counsel on privacy and other related regulatory matters furthering WhatsApp’s initiatives to better connect users
Support a compliance strategy with applicable law and regulation around the world relating to privacy and other associated areas
Review and advise on pending and developing applicable law and regulation globally
Review and advise on operational privacy programs
Collaborate with other members of the WhatsApp and Facebook legal teams on the above as appropriate
J.D. degree and membership in at least one state bar
5+ years attorney experience handling data privacy matters and work supporting regulatory and compliance matters
Privacy experience, including engagement experience with applicable regulatory bodies
Experience developing approaches to legal challenges with a track record providing legal advice to businesses
Experience working with mobile and/or Internet and technology companies
Experience providing advice under deadlines
Experience handling projects in different types of environments with cross-functional stakeholders
Experience with both U.S. and international data protection law
Experience handling security, consumer protection, marketing, competition, and telco regulatory and compliance matters
Experience learning new areas of law and regulation in a variety of jurisdictions
