Facebook is seeking a Hardware Systems Engineer to join our Storage Hardware Design Team. Our storage hardware, which is deployed at various rapidly scaling Facebook data centers, provides foundation for high-efficiency infrastructure upon which several innovative services are delivered. This Hardware Systems Engineer will work closely with hardware engineering design and validation teams to design, test, validate and optimize hardware.

Required Skills:

  1. Work as part of the storage hardware team to design, develop, and test the Facebook storage platforms.

  2. Collaborate with software and capacity management teams to develop specifications of our storage hardware, including in-depth performance analysis of various Facebook software environments on upcoming hardware designs.

  3. Work closely with hardware industry vendors and partners to identify, develop, test, and deploy the right technology for the Facebook storage designs.

  4. Work with our site operations team to understand the installation, operation and maintenance considerations within our data centers and incorporate feedback into the designs.

  5. Work closely with subject matter experts across Facebook to bring disparate technologies together to produce the most efficient storage platform possible.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.

  2. Experience with x86 server hardware, networking and IO stacks, scale-out storage systems, and large-scale Infrastructure.

  3. 5+ years of design and test experience with SAS, SATA, PCIe/NVMe and other storage interfaces.

  4. 3+ years of experience working with HDDs.

  5. Knowledge with server and storage hardware design and troubleshooting.

  6. Communication and documentation experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Ability to evaluate and adopt to new hardware and software platforms architectures.

  2. Experience with object and block storage applications.

  3. Experience in designing storage hardware platforms for data center applications.
