Summary:

Building 8 brings together world-class experts to develop and ship groundbreaking products at the intersection of hardware, software, and content. We have a clear mandate to ship products at scale. In particular, seemingly impossible products that define new categories and that advance Facebook's mission of connecting the world. The B8 team will apply DARPA-style breakthrough development at the intersection of ambitious science and product development. It will operate on aggressive, fixed timelines, with extensive use of partnerships in universities, small and large businesses.

Building 8 seeks a Design Strategist who will work closely with the Product Launch Team for taking breakthroughs and delivering them to market at scale. This is a full-time position based in our Menlo Park office.

Required Skills:

  1. Lead Design Strategy activities, and work alongside with the design team to create new products that define emerging categories or redefine existing ones

  2. Lead internal and external efforts with partners from early design exploration to manufacturing and product launch

  3. Work with the user research, technology and product teams to create new products articulated around meaningful user experiences, Industrial design, and product requirements

  4. Connect the brand to people, represent user-centric thinking, and excellence in aesthetic and functional sensibilities, while simultaneously addressing the design challenges represented by engineering constraints

  5. Help create high level product definition, all the way to detailed design execution

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor or Masters degree in industrial design, or a related field

  2. 5+ years of experience as industrial designer developing consumer electronics and related products

  3. 3+ years experience leading design projects and directing development activities

  4. Experience with sketching, visualizing, and with iterative prototyping processes

  5. Experience with strategic and tactical thinking, detailed design using the tools necessary to create unique products and experiences

  6. Experience collaborating across user research, user interaction, marketing, brand, and engineering activities

  7. Experience with 3D CAD modeling and rendering
