Attempting to connect the world requires an alternative approach to building and deploying telecom network infrastructure. Through organizations like the Telecom Infra Project (www.telecominfraproject.com (http://www.telecominfraproject.com/)) and network infrastructure deployment partnerships, the team collaborates globally with the telecom industry to identify and execute on a range of connectivity programs. If you have experience working with operators, OEMs and other industry stakeholders to drive innovation, while working on cutting edge and cost efficient wireless network infrastructure that will deliver innovative solutions while significantly scaling current networks – then this is a great role for you.
As a Connectivity Program Manager, Lifecycle Analysis you will work closely with the Facebook Infrastructure team, network operators and members of the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) communities to identify new opportunities to unlock value for the telecom industry through the development of metrics, network models and lifecycle analyses to assess the industry impact of deploying TIP based technology within the telecom ecosystem. Technologies related to these initiatives include wireless access, backhaul, core networking, optical and satellite communication systems, servers and storage. In parallel, you will interface with industry partners, hardware/software vendors, and system integration providers. Finally, you will work closely with Facebook teams and the telecom industry to convey how we can work collaboratively to achieve the vision of giving people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. This position is full-time and is based in Menlo Park.
Work across internal Facebook teams and TIP membership to identify new opportunities for industry collaboration which will result in material economic, process and organizational benefits for the telecom industry.
Provide cross-functional program management across finance, engineering, operators and system integrators to create network models supporting the deployment of TIP based technologies comparing the anticipated life cycle economics of TIP based technologies vs. the commercially available alternatives over the course of the planning period.
Program manage the creation of metrics and supporting methodologies to assess and track the industry impact regarding the deployment of TIP based technologies including economic savings, network coverage expansion, data throughput and enhancement to the end user experience.
Strategize cross-functionally both with internal organizations and the external partner community to create economic models in support of industry based procurement initiatives.
Work across project group chairs, operators, and OEMs to identify, prioritize and accelerate network studies for TIP based technologies.
Author studies regarding the projected cost benefits in adopting TIP based technologies to share with the broader community with the goal to introduce and help drive adoption of TIP infrastructure solutions and participation in future network infrastructure deployment programs.
Stay abreast of developments in the telecom infrastructure space and share this knowledge with the wider infrastructure team.
Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of time, with the ability to travel internationally.
6+ years of experience in telecommunications with network modeling experience to program managing the creation of economic models evaluating the impact of TIP based technologies vs. commercially available industry solutions
Experience in program managing across engineering, finance, external operators and equipment manufacturers to analyze financial data and prepare business cases and other network models
Experience in a network operator deployment scenarios such as different geographies and population densities, indoor/outdoor, range of ARPUs and use cases such as fixed/mobile access, enterprise/public access to drive development, cost-effective and open infrastructure
Experience with evolution and development of cellular and Wi-Fi wireless networks – leading technologies and industry developments, partners, typical development cycles, performance, challenges and software solutions
Experience with wireless and wireline telecom infrastructure, data center infrastructure, network design principles
Working knowledge of short and long-term budgeting and forecasting, product/service profitability analysis
Experience to cross-functionally manage dates, key milestones, dependencies and deliverables
Communication and presentation experience
Bachelor's or Masters degree in Business and/or Engineering
- Exposure and familiarity with open source projects and initiatives.
