Facebook is seeking an Architect experienced in the design of Critical Facilities to become part of our data center engineering team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates with efficient ease. Building and operating data centers the "right" way from the day they go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity availability and capital conservatism.

The data center solutions group focuses on design and execution of complex projects that ranges from major live data center retrofits to new non-standard greenfield data center designs. This group approaches design from the chips on the server boards to the facility mechanical and electrical distribution systems, which ensure and maximize efficiency of our compute infrastructure. This position is located in our Menlo Park office with occasional travel to our Data Center regions.

Required Skills:

  1. Technical leader managing design consultants to implement projects through design, planning and construction execution, including but not limited to, responding to RFI's, issuance of technical bulletins, review submittals and shop-drawings and conducting source inspections at vendor factories

  2. Technical leader managing the contractor to ensure the project meets business goals, technical needs and contract terms

  3. Review and update data center "as-built" documentation

  4. Provide review services to local data center operations teams

  5. Travel to data center sites for project review and site walks as required

  6. Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Licensed architect

  2. 5+ years of architectural experience

  3. Knowledge of industry standards, building codes and safety standards

  4. Knowledge of Revit/BIM or other 3D drawing application, experience thinking on how different applications can improve accuracy of cost assessment and consistency of design

  5. Cross-discipline knowledge of complete critical facility systems

  6. Experience with project management approaches, tools and phases of the project lifecycle

  7. Experience prioritizing for planning strategy and tactics

  8. Knowledge of business acumen and organizational issues and challenges

  9. Troubleshooting, analytical experience and experience making decision supported by data

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Owner’s representative experience

  2. Experience in mission critical facility design, construction, operations, and maintenance

  3. Ability to work in ambiguous situations
