Summary:

Facebook designs, builds and operates one of the largest and fastest growing Content Delivery Networks in the world. The Edge Network team is responsible for egress capacity for all products, including Facebook Newsfeed, Live, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and more. We are looking for a Network Quantitative Engineer who is passionate about using data to influence network infrastructure strategy and software build plans. This is a highly collaborative role that will require working with many teams across network planning & engineering, CDN & product software engineering, technical program management and more. Any day could include helping engineers understand the impact of their latest software deployments in markets and network conditions across the globe, visualizing performance and reliability data to share with ISPs to help them improve their networks, or developing models to identify portions of the network where capacity constraints need to be addressed.

Required Skills:

  1. Work cross-functionally with highly technical software and network infrastructure teams, understand their goals, and create tools and visualizations to influence network infrastructure strategy decisions.

  2. Work with various teams to understand the network, user base, performance constraints and growth requirements across all products.

  3. Perform analysis across a large number of data sources to forecast traffic and create a network strategy for capacities, location and facilities.

  4. Work with internal technical operations teams to define problems, data collection, synthesize relevant data, build analytical models and forecasts.

  5. Combine data and business principles to recommend solutions for large web infrastructure problems.

  6. Leverage tools like R, PHP, Python, Hadoop & SQL to drive efficient analytics.

  7. Communicate final recommendations and drive improvements to the overall network strategy.

  8. Build and maintain complex optimization and capacity constraint models.

  9. Adapt and enhance existing models which characterize architectural guidelines and design principles to affect network capacity decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Degree in an analytical field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Management Science).

  2. 4+ years of hands-on experience analyzing and interpreting data, drawing conclusions, defining recommended actions, and reporting results across various stakeholders.

  3. Experience in demand forecasting, network analysis, performance metrics and operations research.

  4. 3+ years of SQL development experience.

  5. 3+ years experience of scripting with one of the following languages: Python, PHP, PERL, R.

  6. Hands-on experience with large datasets.

  7. Knowledge of statistics and optimization techniques.

  8. Knowledge of network infrastructure and web technologies.
