Facebook seeks a highly motivated and experienced team player to act as Data ProtectionCounsel on Facebook Ireland’s Data Protection team. Thesuccessful candidate will have diverse experience in this field of law within the Europeancontext, and in particular enjoy and have experience in the challenge of applying complex andevolving legal frameworks to new and innovative products and services.The role will focus on providing legal advice to internal product, operations, policy, sales andother business teams in order to identify and mitigate legal risk in all phases of productdevelopment and across business operations. The ideal candidate will have strong experienceadvising on Data Protection compliance and will be eager to roll up their sleeves and findsolutions to support the company’s innovation. The role requires good judgment, a strong workethic, and a keen interest in learning about new technologies and areas of the law.This role may be located in Dublin or London. This role will require some international travel.
Analyse products, policies and initiatives to provide practical legal assessment for products across multiple jurisdictions
Provide policy, product, engineering, sales and other business teams with legal advice on data protection laws and regulations
Coordinate with public policy and communications colleagues on external communication, policy development, and enforcement decisions
Provide full service support to wider legal team on European regulatory and litigation matters and liaising with regulators
Contribute to and provide data protection training and awareness programs
Monitor and respond to developments in data protection and information security (i.e., new laws, regulations, important judgements, regulatory guidance, etc.).
Qualified to practice law in at least one EU jurisdiction
Minimum of 3-4 years of relevant post-qualification legal experience, including at a law firm or prior in-house experience
In-depth knowledge of legal issues in the area of the operation of online social media platforms including an excellent understanding of data protection law
Sharp focus on multi-tasking, details, and organisational skills
Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to get the job done
Ability to independently, quickly and accurately assess legal, practical and business risks in a fast-paced environment and make sound judgments
Excellent problem-solving, written and oral communication skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills and an absolute commitment to professionalism and collegiality
Attention to detail and strong drafting ability that can be used in a commercial setting with business stakeholders
First rate technical abilities with a strong knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies and devices with a demonstrated ability to find pragmatic and creative solutions to business issues and provide concise and business-focused legal advice.
Experience advising clients on risk assessment and mitigation across technology product platforms
Prior experience working with internet or technology companies a plus
Experience working within a global legal team a plus
Knowledge of, or fluency in, other European languages a plus.
