Description of Work

The Volunteer Services Coordinator position involves solicitation and coordination of community volunteers supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities living at the Center. This position requires considerable organizations skills, coordination and interaction with community volunteers, people residing at the Center and staff members. Duties required of this position include maintaining documentation of contributions received, composing correspondence, processing donations, coordination of special programs and events (e.g., Operation Santa Claus, Campership, Arts Festival, Farm Day, Sponsorship Program, blood drives, SWAG prom, PALS program, etc.) as well as serving on committees. Work Hours are typically Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend work required as needed with flexibility of hours during the Christmas Holiday Season.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

To receive credit for all of your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form. Qualified applicants must document on the application that they possess all of the following:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize and organize work assignments, meet deadlines and communicate effectively
  • Position also requires effective collaboration with a variety of people within the Center
  • Must possess organizational skills as well as the ability to express ideas clearly in oral and written form
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Working knowledge of the population served as well as the programs utilized in meeting the needs of the population
  • Management Preferences:
    Five years or more of experience working with people with intellectual developmental disabilities.
    NCAVA Certification in Volunteer Administration and/or Duke Non-Profit Certification.

    Physical requirements
    The ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time, lift items weighing up to 40 lbs., and transport items.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Bachelor s degree from an appropriately accredited institution;


    High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of work in volunteer services enabling the applicant to acquire the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.
