Intake Coord - Cardiothoracic Transplant

The Cardiothoracic Transplant department is looking for an Intake Coordinator! This position is limited casual, working approximately two 8-hour shifts per week, Monday through Friday. No weekends required. Two years of previous medical office experience required. Insurance experience preferred. Purpose:
Provide essential support to the Cardiothoracic Transplant Team by managing communication between patients, staff, providers, schedulers, and all UPMC departments involved in patient care. Receives and processes clinical information pertinent to the facilitation of prior authorizations for medications, procedures, and clinic visits. Facilitates the comprehensive continuity of care of the cardiothoracic transplant patients. Responsibilities: Collects initial referral information via telephone, fax, or e-mail and distributes information to appropriate team member in a timely and efficient manner. Coordinates and manages medical management of the cardiothoracic transplant patient including but not limited to patient communications, outside physician offices, electronic medical record management, scheduling all required appointments and testing, obtaining authorizations for medications, procedures and appointments, clerical support, and data entry. Demonstrate the ability to establish priorities, perform assignments and meet productivity thresholds in the allotted time frames while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. General data entry responsibilities to include: Collection and verification of demographics and insurance information, test results and other pertinent information into EPIC databases. Maintain patient confidentiality. Maintain weekly/monthly productivity. Prepare, organize and maintain confidential patient charts and clinical records. Support Transplant Coordinators and members of the Cardiothoracic Transplant Team.
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree preferred. Two years experience with administrative support in an outpatient clinic, physician office or other health care setting. Knowledge of medical terminology required. Ability to handle a high volume workload and to remain focused and organized under pressure. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Ability to perform duties with significant degree of independence and initiative. Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
