Facebook is seeking a Lead Controls Engineer to join the Data Center Controls & Monitoring team. Our data centers serve as the foundation upon which our software operates to meet the demands of our customers, with the Facility Operations team supporting multiple data centers on one site.

The Lead Controls Engineer will be responsible for a team of Controls Engineers who provide controls system site support for building retrofits, optimization efforts, escalated technical issues, and new construction ‘ready for operations’ activities. In addition to managing a team of controls systems experts, the Lead Controls Engineer will also have direct support responsibilities for an assigned site. The ideal candidate should possess exceptional leadership and management skills, essential for team alignment with global strategies, as well as be a technical expert in the controls systems domain, with the ability to provide technical solutions and guidance to help drive global standardization initiatives, in a highly collaborative environment.

Required Skills:

  1. Develop, mentor, and manage a team of 2 to 3 controls engineers

  2. Serve as the principal liaison for all controls systems related issues, coordinating efforts of external activities necessary to support assigned site operations

  3. Develop and implement engineering standards / best practices

  4. Develop and generate specifications, RFPs, ROMs and SOWs for assigned projects

  5. Serve as the point of escalation for complex control system malfunctions

  6. coordinating the associated troubleshooting and response

  7. Facilitate change control reviews activities for assigned projects

  8. Perform readiness review of assigned new build projects to inform overall building acceptance

  9. Travel to data center sites in support of pre-engineering, implementation, startup testing and commissioning of projects at the assigned site

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Strong communication and organisational skills

  2. Demonstrated personnel leadership skills

  3. 10+ years controls experience in programming development, start up, and commissioning of electrical monitoring systems, central plants, air handling units, and evaporative cooling/humidification systems

  4. Associates in Engineering/Technical studies or relevant Military Technical School

  5. Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and life safety systems associated with critical environments

  6. Ability to understand and audit blueprints/CAD drawings and controls diagrams

  7. Experience beyond field technician level such as project management, project engineering, or operations management

  8. 30% domestic and international travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline

  2. Experience with software programming languages such as Python, PHP, SQL

  3. IT/Networking Certification
