Summary:

The Head of Public Policy Southern Cone will be the primary contact with Governments in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile and will be responsible for articulating our mission to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Duties will include monitoring of the policy environment; working with political bodies and non-governmental organizations on issues of privacy/data protection, safety and security, intellectual property, content policy, Internet governance, and other Internet–relevant public policy concerns. This person will also be responsible for developing policy programs that will help enhance the policy community’s understanding of the Facebook platform better and work directly with policymakers on “digital diplomacy” and e-government initiatives. This position will be based in our Buenos Aires office.

Required Skills:

  1. Develop and execute a strategic approach to achieve the goals of the company in public policy

  2. Monitor the policy and regulatory environment for issues that are relevant to the company, communicate issues and advise Facebook policy and cross functional teams on how to address them

  3. Work with political bodies, policymakers and non-governmental organizations on issues of privacy/data protection, safety and security, intellectual property, content policy, Internet Governance, and other Internet-relevant public policy concerns

  4. Develop and promote policy programs that will help enhance the policy community’s understanding of the Facebook platform and work directly with policymakers on “digital diplomacy” and e-government initiatives

  5. Actively promote the use of Facebook

  6. Build coalitions to help advance and support Facebook’s policy agenda

  7. Communicate Facebook’s positions in public presentations and with the media

  8. Manage a diverse team of people and create an inclusive work environment, removing roadblocks to success

  9. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to make project decisions, leveraging insights from different voices to make appropriate recommendations when issues arise

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years of experience managing policy, legislation and/or government

  2. 5+ years of experience working with political systems and institutions as well as policy, politics, campaigns and government affairs

  3. Analytical and creative thinking on policy issues and programs

  4. Well developed advocacy skills

  5. Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

  6. Fluency in English and Spanish

  7. Availability to travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Advanced degree in law, public policy, political science, economics or related field
