Facebook is seeking a Data Center Operations Lead to support our colocation data center in Osaka, Japan. Our data centers, and the 10s of thousands of servers installed in them, are the foundation upon our rapidly scaling infrastructure and our innovative services are. The establishment of this colocation Data Center in Japan is an important milestone in the evolution of Facebook’s data center expansion in APAC market.

This position is full-time and will be based at the Colocation data center in Osaka, Japan.

Required Skills:

  1. Provide operational support to the regional manager

  2. Be an essential part of establishing and managing a data center operations team responsible for the installation, maintenance and operation of server hardware

  3. Working with the centralized organizations to ensure that the FB APAC footprint is well supported. This includes oversight of various teams and their direct reports

  4. Working with Public Relations and Site Operations Management, take a leading role in managing the ongoing relationships with local, regional and national entities as directed by the regional manager

  5. Working with peer organizations to assist with issues associated with network operations, project management and supply chain operations

  6. Mentoring and leading other FB employees and contractors associated to the APAC footprint, such that they can run diverse daily operations with minimal supervision

  7. Developing both the technical capabilities and leadership qualities of individual contributors

  8. Finding creative ways to keep operating costs to a minimum

  9. Contributing to the development and implementation of processes which support

  10. Efficient equipment installations (servers, switches, routers and storage hardware)

  11. Timely equipment repairs and upgrades

  12. Rapid troubleshooting of issues with hardware and Linux OS

  13. Tracking issues, reporting and managing key metrics

  14. Providing leadership, guidance and manage service providers and contractors to ensure delivery their service.

  15. Manage relationship with service providers and contractors and solve ongoing and future issues

  16. Ensure all site related services are up and running, communicate and collaborate with internal counter parts and external vendors

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Minimum 7+ years of management of technology operations, including datacenter operations

  2. Ability and desire to work in a fast paced, hands-on, start up environment

  3. Highly experienced in personnel management, staffing, and scheduling for a 24/7 environment

  4. Ability to make decisions and work with minimal direction

  5. Understanding of data center power and cooling infrastructure

  6. Understanding of network and cabling infrastructure

  7. Experienced in project management

  8. Experienced in vendor management and negotiations

  9. A positive, service oriented attitude

  10. Approximately 40% travel required

  11. Good verbal and written skills in English and Japanese

  12. Comfortable speaking at public events
