Facebook Research Scientist in Seattle, Washington

Summary:
Oculus is a world leader in the design of virtual reality systems. We are currently seeking innovative researchers with a passion for applied and fundamental research in fields related to virtual reality at our research location in Redmond WA. The focus of this role is on haptics and perceptual psychology with the primary responsibility being the design, setup, and running of user study experiments related to human perception. The position requires a combination of education and experience in experimental psychology research, and a background with coursework in engineering, math, or physics is also desired.

Required Skills:

  1. Plan and execute cutting edge research to advance the state of the art in the perception of touch.

  2. Develop new advanced technologies related to touch and perception.

  3. Generate new psychophysical models and methods of analysis pertaining to haptics.

  4. Work with the team to help design, setup, and run user study experiments related to human perception.

  5. Collaborate with other researchers and engineers to develop experiments and concepts that advance the entire project

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. PhD and postdoctoral assignment in the field of Perceptual Psychology, Cognitive Science, or related field

  2. Completed a university postdoctoral assignment

  3. 5+ years of work experience in perceptual psychology beyond a postdoc

  4. Experience in research psychology

    1. Experience with designing, setting up, and running user studies

    2. Experience with statistical analysis of data

    3. A documented history of increasing responsibilities and decision-making experience

    4. Interpersonal skills – cross-group and cross-culture collaboration

    5. Proven track record of achieving significant results

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated record in publication

  2. Experience with haptics

  3. Knowledge and experience with virtual reality research
