Facebook Research Scientist, VR Audio in Redmond, Washington

Summary:
Oculus is a world leader in the design of virtual reality systems. We are currently seeking innovative researchers with a passion for technology to push the state-of-the-art for VR audio at our research location in Redmond, WA. This role is focused on developing advanced audio techniques that leverage the benefits of real-world measurements and simulation algorithms. The position requires a PhD in audio engineering and signal processing, acoustics, electrical engineering, computer science or similar, and a strong background in solving hard problems in audio.

Required Skills:

  1. Develop next-generation VR audio technology

  2. Explore the application of computational acoustic methods to virtual reality audio, emphasizing the development of advanced simulations, algorithms, and measurement capabilities

  3. Collaborate with the larger Oculus Research team to develop experiments and concepts that advance the entire project

  4. Transfer research technologies to the product team

  5. Mentor MS/PhD interns and collaborate with external academic groups to advance our research goals

  6. Publish research results in top-tier journals and at leading international conferences

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. PhD and/or postdoctoral assignment in the field of audio engineering and signal processing, acoustics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field

  2. 5+ years experience with working on audio-focused simulations, algorithm development, and measurement prototyping

  3. 3+ years experience in mathematical optimization, including software libraries and implementation from first principles

    1. 3+ years experience in acoustic simulation and modeling techniques

    2. Demonstrated ability to construct audio-specific proof-of-concept systems performance evaluations

    3. 5+ years experience with scientific programming languages such as C, C++, Matlab, Python, or similar

    4. Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration

    5. Able to obtain work authorization in the US beginning in 2017

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with virtual reality research

  2. Proven track record of achieving academic results, including papers at conferences such as SIGGRAPH, IEEE VR, etc. or top journals such as TOG, JASA, etc.
