Facebook Mechanical Engineer, Audio in Redmond, Washington

Summary:

As a Mechanical Engineer at Oculus Research, you will develop state of the art prototype structures, mechanisms, and solutions for next generation audio devices. You will become part of a team exploring new concepts through analytical modeling and fast iterative prototyping. A wide range of approaches will be explored combining electrical, mechanical, acoustic, firmware, and software techniques. We want people who work well in teams; can brainstorm big ideas; work in new technology areas; able to drive a concept into a prototype; and can envision how a prototype could transition into a high-volume consumer product. Starting with a broad scientific background, be willing to become a quick expert in a new area, and quickly build new prototypes using novel materials and/or by integrating structures in new ways leveraging a strong mechanical background. We’re looking for a hands-on builder of acoustic-mechanical systems that can work well in a fast paced, multidisciplinary research environment.

Required Skills:

  1. Lead Mechanical Engineering activities in a cross-functional team environment.

  2. Ownership of the mechanical design of prototype audio systems.

  3. Model, build, test, and refine prototypes.

  4. Active participation and leadership in providing peer guidance to other Mechanical Engineers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

  2. 5+ years experience working on design for acoustic devices.

  3. Experience in test and analysis (FEM/FEA, Simulation, etc.).

  4. Knowledge of manufacturing techniques (Machining, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.).

  5. Experience in 3D design modeling and physical prototyping.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

  2. 10+ years of proven product design, prototyping and R&D experience.

  3. Experience in consumer electronics product development.

  4. Experience with Solidworks 3D modeling software.

  5. Knowledge of acoustic transducers, microphones, and test equipment.

  6. Knowledge of structural vibration, physical acoustics.
