Facebook Material Scientist in Redmond, Washington

Summary:

As a Material Scientist for the Oculus Research Eye Tracking team, you will advance the state of human tracking technologies by iterating through hardware prototypes. Working closely with a team of tracking experts, you will design and test using new optical materials, technologies, and optical systems that will shape development strategy. You will identify new materials or optical techniques that contribute to the performance of eye tracking systems, analyze and document development. You will help build new eye tracking and gaze estimation methods by designing, building, and testing new optics systems.

Required Skills:

  1. Design, build, and test optics and material prototypes

  2. Implement testing methodologies for evaluating new concept performance

  3. Develop assembly techniques for optical and material concepts

  4. Create new materials and processes that advance optical performance in eye tracking applications

  5. Drive eye-tracking system development through prototyping and testing new hardware systems

  6. Develop strategies to optimize material and optical performance

  7. Managing interactions with internal / external partners and suppliers

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Advanced degree (Master or equivalent) in the field of Physics, Optics, Material Science, or a related technical field

  2. 5+ years of industry experience

  3. 5+ years experience building and testing optical systems or optical materials

  4. 5+ years experience in experimental development and simulation software

  5. Experience with evaluating system performance and determination of success criteria

  6. Analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. PhD in Physics, Optics, Material Science, or a related technical field

  2. Experience with eye tracking, face tracking, or other human anatomy tracking

  3. Cross-functional experience in a broad range of optical applications for example: human vision, image processing, display, coatings, glass, plastic, specialized materials

  4. Experience with COMSOL, Lighttools, Code V, and Zemax
