Facebook Safety/Compliance Engineer, Building 8 in Menlo Park, California

Summary:

The B8 team will apply DARPA-style breakthrough development at the intersection of ambitious science and product development. It will operate on aggressive, fixed timelines, with extensive use of partnerships in universities, small and large businesses. The Product Launch Team has the responsibility for taking breakthroughs and delivering them to market at scale. Building 8 seeks a Safety/Compliance Engineer who will be responsible for developing and executing our Product Safety and Hazard plans. This is a two-year position based in our Menlo Park office.

Required Skills:

  1. You will interact closely with cross-functional teams such as HW Engineering, Product Design, Quality, Reliability, Operations, Logistics and Product Counsel.

  2. Provide strategic guidance to design teams regarding compliance and regulatory design requirements.

  3. Collaborate with platform engineering to review and approve the various compliance plans for each product.

  4. Review the compliance of project designs and documentation to meet or exceed all applicable regulating bodies minimum requirements.

  5. Guide product engineering and operations staff on achieving safety and regulatory compliance on schedule and on budget.

  6. Recommend solutions to fix compliance issues and develop feedback mechanisms into future hardware designs.

  7. Continually review and update current internal standards to ensure compliance with certifying entities as specifications evolve and new product technologies are investigated.

  8. Obtain compliance type approvals for all product lines to ensure entry into domestic and international locations and markets.

  9. Ensure that all products receive necessary compliance approvals and certifications necessary to get through customs internationally.

  10. Drive audit/test of production level units for both NPI and sustaining programs in order to meet global certifications (FCC, CE, Product safety and Environmental)

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS or equivalent degree in an engineering discipline

  2. 10+ years of experience in regulatory compliance / safety

  3. Prior hands-on experience with troubleshooting techniques related specifically to compliance issues.

  4. Ability to develop safety FMEA, Product Hazard analysis, FTA, and other hazard identification methods.

  5. Knowledge of worldwide regulatory approval process (e.g. IEEE, UL, CE, FCC, GCF, CA Prop65, RoHS, REACH)

  6. Experience with test and analysis methodologies and test equipment used for regulatory compliance tests.

  7. Experience in setting up and working with test and certification labs

  8. Ability to thrive in fast paced, dynamic and ambiguous work environment

  9. Communication skills

  10. Willing to travel internationally as needed
