Summary:

The B8 team will apply DARPA-style breakthrough development at the intersection of ambitious science and product development. It will operate on aggressive, fixed timelines, with extensive use of partnerships in universities, small and large businesses. The Product Launch Team has the responsibility for taking breakthroughs and delivering them to market at scale. Building 8 seeks a Reliability Engineer who will ensure and improve the durability and reliability of Facebook’s product. To achieve that, partnering with multiple engineering teams from concept phase to the end of a products lifecycle, while exploring new technologies and understanding how our customers will use our industry leading products. You will develop and implement creative reliability tests on cutting edge hardware programs, quantify reliability risks, support failure analysis resulting from these results, and advise leadership team on the best path forward. This is a two-year position based in our Menlo Park office.

Required Skills:

  1. Developing new reliability tests procedures and specifications, performance metrics and then lead management reliability reviews.

  2. Prepare concise and detailed test plans and analyzing test reports.

  3. Statistically analyzing data to provide design risk assessments.

  4. Presenting tests results and risk assessments in a confident and positive manner.

  5. Researching new technologies to understand unique failure mechanisms.

  6. Guiding design and interacting with diverse groups to improve product reliability.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent

  2. 5+ years of industry experience

  3. Imaginative approach to Failure Modes and Effects Analysis

  4. Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% to global locations

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science

  2. Experience performing reliability testing including mechanical stress test, Shock/Drop/Vibration testing and environmental testing

  3. Familiarity with failure analysis techniques (optical microscopy, X-Ray/CT, SEM) and the ability to use the methodology to derive a root cause of failure

  4. Statistical experience such as Weibull, JMP or familiarity with reliability growth models

  5. Understanding of Design of Experiments

  6. Navigate ambiguity and develop new best practices

  7. Experience working in overseas manufacturing partners
