Summary:

Facebook's global network comprised of cutting-edge platforms is looking for an Optical Network Engineer to join the core engineering team. This team is responsible for designing, implementing and supporting one of the world’s largest and complex networks. Suggestion: As an Optical Network Engineer, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the future network to accommodate our explosive growth as well as internal product requirements. This position is full-time and located in our Menlo Park office.

Required Skills:

  1. Work with various teams to understand FB's network, user base, performance constraints and growth requirements

  2. Work with procurement and other teams to devise strategies on hardware and network acquisitions around the globe

  3. Provide network planning and engineering support for a large-scale network design

  4. Evaluate deployment architectures and translate them to vendor requirements/roadmaps

  5. Planning and commissioning of new metro, long-haul and submarine nodes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Experience working in optical engineering or design roles on an ICP, ISP or enterprise-level production network.

  2. Experience working with ROADM, coherent transponders and long haul operation optical networks.

  3. Experience with coding in any of C++, Java, Python

  4. Knowledge of extended-reach modulation techniques for ultra-long haul and submarine applications

  5. Knowledge of IPoWDM, Control Plane, and other hybrid WDM architectures

  6. Experience with the rollout of production DWDM networks

  7. Working knowledge of IP networking fundamentals

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Masters or higher qualification in Optical or Photonic degree.
