Facebook Application Engineer, Data Center Controls and Monitoring in Menlo Park, California

Facebook is seeking an Application Engineer to support and manage data center building management control and monitoring applications. Focus is to ensure data center control and monitoring applications meet Facebook’s IT standards, are optimally configured to meet Facility Operations’ reliability and availability needs, and are easily managed through automated methods. This position involves strong collaboration with Facebook’s enterprise IT teams, Controls Engineers, and Facility Operations remotely based data center operations teams. This is a new position reporting to the Facebook Data Center Controls/Monitoring (DCCM) Infrastructure Manager and will be based in Menlo Park. Some domestic and international travel may be required.

Required Skills:

  1. Identifies and leads application driven IT infrastructure improvements collaboratively across Facebook’s Infrastructure organization

  2. Conducts technical review of application patches and firmware updates to drive appropriate implementation approach

  3. Represents controls and monitoring application needs on IT infrastructure projects

  4. Owns the application installation, virtualization, backup and recovery processes including standards documentation, provisioning, automation, and testing

  5. Serves as the escalation point for trouble shooting application, virtualization, communication, and installation failures

  6. Drives application and associated infrastructure root cause analysis, comprehensive corrective action plans, and improvements

  7. Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt and learn new skill sets

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or relevant work experience

  2. Experience in IT automation, virtualization, and scripting toolsets, such as Chef Automate, VMware, or PowerShell

  3. Microsoft Windows Server administration experience

  4. SQL Database and Database Management Systems experience

  5. Ability to collaborate with different individuals across external organizations, within other geographies, and be involved with hands-on executional work

  6. Analytical, problem-solving, negotiation and organizational skills

  7. Organizational and coordination skills along with multi-tasking capabilities to get things done

  8. Communication skills with attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years of work experience supporting mission critical applications or experience with building automation applications

  2. Networking or data center experience with Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent certification
