Facebook 3D Generalist in Menlo Park, California

Join a team of designers who are passionate about creating a cutting edge VR experience and establishing Oculus as an industry leader. As a 3D Generalist, you will be involved in every aspect of the product development process, from conceptualizing the next generation of the VR platform to designing incremental features. The Oculus User Experience Design team is looking for a 3D generalist with technical skills to conceptualize, build, and implement amazing environments for our first-party virtual reality apps. You’ll be responsible for creating 3D environments for both prototyping and for future iterations of the product. This position is full-time and based in Menlo Park, CA.

Required Skills:

  1. Build everything from props, rooms, buildings, cities and characters

  2. Execute a wide range of tasks including planning, look development, modeling, rigging, texturing, lighting, performance optimization and engine integration

  3. Synthesize broad, ambiguous business goals and work with the Product design team to create environments for VR

  4. Take creative direction and translate it into your design concepts

  5. Maintain assets from creation, integration and shipping

  6. Give and solicit real time feedback from other designers to continually raise the quality and craftsmanship of the product

  7. Partner with PMs, engineers, researchers, content strategist & QA, overseeing the implementation of the user experience from product conception to launch, as well as post-launch design support

  8. Quickly solve issues with your cross functional leads

  9. Clearly articulate design decisions to a vast set of internal stakeholders

    1. Thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years of professional experience working on AAA game titles or equivalent film projects

  2. 5+ years of professional experience working with Maya/Modo/Max/Cinema 4D plus Z-Brush

  3. Experience implementing assets in real-time engines, such as Unity3D or Unreal

  4. Ability to scale assets from PC platforms (Rift) to mobile systems (Gear VR) while maintaining visual fidelity.

  5. Ability to collaborate and iterate based on the team's needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 2D Art skills for creating environment concept art

  2. Technical art skills

  3. VFX experience

  4. Prior virtual reality experience

  5. Knowledge of emerging technologies
