Facebook is looking for a Network Deployment Engineer responsible for the deployment and support of one of the world’s largest and most complex networks. As a member of this team, you will have a unique opportunity to deploy, design and maintain network devices and be involved in all aspects of networking at Facebook. The ideal candidate is an engineer who is comfortable working on a fast paced environment and constantly evolving network. As a Network Deployment Engineer she/he is not afraid to propose new ideas, gather constructive feedback from others, and push forward to make these ideas a reality. This engineer has excellent communication skills and is able to build solid relationships with other teams within Facebook and external parties like vendors and contractors. This engineer is highly committed to the team success, and is always looking for ways to push not only him/herself to the next level but also the team.
Collaborate with Program Managers, Procurement, Engineering, Installation teams and vendors to formalize the site design requirements and deployment plans.
Create and/or review basic deployment packages including:
Engineering Design Packages (EDP)
Scope of Works (SoW)
Installation and process Method of Procedures (MoP)
Network equipment and server Rack Face Elevations (RFE)
Bill of Materials (BoM)
Supervision (remote or onsite) of network upgrade installations or new site deployments (physical installation, logical configuration, and testing of active devices). Involves understanding of WDM, 40G, 100G and L2/L3 technologies.
Calculate and document equipment power/space requirements and consumption for multiple sites and work with local Engineering, Facilities Operations, and/or colocation vendors to meet these requirements.
Proactively contribute to documentation, automation and processes improvement.
Create cage and rack designs and understand the overall needs of current and future POP infrastructure.
From 2 to 3 years of experience with: Network hardware platforms and architectures including Cisco and Juniper routers/switches.
Hardware installation and configuration at large scale.
Proved ability to lead and execute complex network deployment projects.
Interaction with vendors and external parties to drive projects to completion.
Field-based work in Data Centers, POPs, carrier hotels, or Central Office environments.
Cable management best practices and industry standards.
Hands-on experience with basic optical communication equipment including optical amplifiers, coherent transponders and other WDM equipment.
Technical knowledge of various regional Data Center electrical and cooling configurations, IEC, NEMA standards, AC/DC power, power redundancy scenarios.
Certifications such as CCNP, JNCIP, RHCT or equivalent experience a bonus.
Scripting automation experience a bonus.
Ability to work in a global team environment.
10% to 30% of travel required.
